Winkworth estate agents have dropped an unexpected leaflet through my door:

Winkworth’s “exclusive service” has been “developed in consultation with recently retired senior MPs from all parties,” the leaflet chirps blithely, apparently unaware of some of the reasons why quite a few MPs retired recently. I shall have no part of it. This is a web of evil, not a web of tawdry third-rate expenses fraud.*

To be scrupulously fair, isn't this related to the *new* rules, rather than the old "rules"? That is, MPs from outside London are now expected to rent a property there, rather than to purchase one.

To be scrupulously fair, yes of course, and under the new system it'll be much harder for anyone to commit the kind of tawdry fraud I'm referring to. That doesn't lessen the surprise and amusement engendered by this leaflet dropping through your letterbox, though.
