Okay, how often do I ask you for something? Never, that’s when. But on this occasion I come to you cap in hand, despite the probable futility of the enterprise.

Earnest stadium twangers Hard-Fi are running a remix competition to perk up their current single, “I Shall Overcome”—although in reality, since the “competition” part consists of how many people you can persuade to visit the site in the first place and vote for you, preferably from all your social networking sites (they have a Facebook widget and everything), it’s less a remix competition than an internet friends contest.

Nonetheless, my transparently commercial effort is finally up on the site. I’d be very grateful if—so long as you (a) can spare a few minutes, (b) don’t mind dance music and indeed (c) don’t mind Hard-Fi—you could go and vote. Of course you might think it’s utter pigs’ tits, in which case you’re more than welcome to say so. It’s the taking part that counts, it says here.

Some people have already heard this. There was one overriding message in response: “We liked when you stopped fannying about with the verses and brought the beat in properly”. Also: “You know that part with the beat? Make it longer! Stop fannying about!” There is now a longer dub version here that does just that.

The original single is here.

(I’d like to point out that “Dominion” is neither a Sisters of Mercy reference nor a sign of incipient megalomania; like “Plasma Kiser”, it was a spam name that seemed to happily fit the bill.)

Thanks for the dub version - it's great. Can I come over for a pic n'mix gym version at some point?

Of course. Can I assume in advance that it'll be approximately half an hour of the trancey bit?

I will grant you 4 stars for your efforts sir. There's just enough Depeche Mode in that chorus for a synth whore like me.

Excellent! It's pretty geeky in the first place to throw in a chord change as a homage to a particular group, and therefore most geekily satisfying if someone else spots it.

It was only a question of time before this happened. I apologise for any distress my remix might have caused.

I clicked upon your Dom in the on.
This makes no sense, but consider yourself voted for.

Is this a competition for the best remix or the best connected remixer?

See you next week for lunch with al?

Sadly, the latter.
