MPs and Lords have been discussing the possibility of Parliament getting a dedicated education centre. They want to make it very high-tech so it can stand up against the kind of exhibition run by the Science Museum.
I know how hard it is to come up with novel teaching methods to keep kids interested, but really, if you set a group of them loose with the latest digital editing equipment, how high on their list of dream topics would be the role of the House of Lords? Anyway, surely any precocious smart-arse worth his or her salt would be able to take any innocuous interview with a Peer and make with the funny in the edit suite.Lord Renton of Mount Harry: Using the latest technology such as digital film editing, students would engage with the work of Parliament. For example, a Peer could be interviewed in the education centre by a visiting school group, who would then use the footage to create a short film introducing the role of the Lords that would then be downloaded on to computers in the education centre and edited. In order to produce a coherent film in that exciting way, students would have to understand better the functions of Parliament. Thus they will be motivated by the technology, which will immerse them in the topic...
