Someone, and I honestly can't remember who, was telling me last year about
this branch of KFC. For ages it was the only symbol of Western capitalism, American imperialism,
dreadful processed chicken etc to hand in Peshawar, Pakistan's last frontier town before it abandons all pretence at civilisation and everything becomes an exciting whirl of mountains, heavily-armed Arabs and poppy-dust. As a result, every time there's a grievance locally, on a scale ranging from the current cartoon riots to general background grumbling about Jews and Freemasons, KFC cops it
every time. Now here it is again, aflame as per. Working there must be as much fun as running a top hat, Union Jack and Pope-shaped-dog-toy concession on the Falls Road.
Apparently there's now a McDonald's in Peshawar as well, but there's no word as to its condition. It's possible that locals have become so used to torching KFC that they'd find it hard to envisage even wafting sparks towards any other restaurant.
EDIT: Ah.

"Yeah, go on then. It's been a few days."

They should count themselves lucky that there isn't a branch of Kennedy Fried Chicken, or Shalamars.
Accuracy note
