Energy Minister Malcolm Wicks told MPs the National Grid was “awash with gas”.

Is this what’s happened in my kitchen? Have the Government got something to do with this?

I dunno, it's always the Government's fault with you, isn't it?

I did wonder about the compatibility of "awash" with the concept of "gas". If we were living on Titan, then plenty of things might be "awash with gas". We'd all be dead, of course, but at least there wouldn't be a potential power shortage. Maybe David Cameron could look into the Daily Mail running a campaign: "Why oh why does rip-off Britain suffer when Titan gets all the overflowing lakes of gas?"

If there are illegal aliens here, the least they could do for Britain is bring some gas with them.
