One for Lords connoisseurs, this. From 1979:

The Earl of CLANCARTY rose to call attention to the increasing number of sightings and landings on a worldwide scale of unidentified flying objects (UFOs), and to the need for an intra-governmental study of UFOs.

Some of the speakers are sceptics, some are believers, but all are very lordly about the whole endeavour. And although there remain to this day some hereditary peers entirely capable of sharing an experience like this with the House on pretty much any topic, for once a contribution like this was relevant:

The Earl of Halsbury: I should like to tell your Lordships about some of the sightings I have seen. I will order them in terms of my curriculum vitae, beginning at the age of six, when I saw an angel... it is perfectly true that there was my guardian angel sitting on the edge of my bed. Naturally, with the imagination of a child, I clothed this presence in human form with a large pair of feathery wings. This presence proceeded to rebuke me for initiating a practice which it said would get me into trouble if I persisted in it. Having remembered the rebuke all my life and acted upon it, I am not prepared to deny the reality of the presence that was there with me.
