I’m putting this one out to tender. We’re all baffled by what Earl Attlee might conceivably be referring to here. Are dairy farmers easily awed by government announcements? Do cows repeatedly present false dawns to dairy farmers? What, basically, the hell?
Earl Attlee: A legal framework to facilitate the funding and construction of Crossrail has been long in coming. I remember when this project was first conceived nearly 20 years ago; since then, its progress has been stalled by a plethora of reviews and seen many false dawns. I think that a dairy farmer would be impressed by the number of times that this Government have announced that Crossrail was to go ahead.
Anyone?

EDIT: Oh, he’s talking about bullshit. He should have said.

Dairy farmers are the professional experts at waiting until the cows come home.

Excellent! That joke is missing only one thing (http://www.webofevil.talktalk.net/punchline.mp3).

My reading is that he's cheekily suggesting that there's been enough bullshit to impress even a dairy farmer.

Though they'd actually have much more experience of cowshit, I suppose. It's probably much the same though, for the purposes of becoming jaded...

Either way, his joke fails. If we're talking about what he meant, that's nulle points on the gag-o-meter.

I can't think of a better one right now, but please inform the Earl that if he wishes to hire me as his personal gagsmith, I will produce the goods, and my rates are reasonable.

Aha! A viable possibility, if demonstrating a degree of subtlety not normally associated (http://webofevil.livejournal.com/409505.html) with Earls.

The stuff about the cows is less important than finding out why Earl Attlee has grown a moustache to look more like his grandfather, when he's a Tory.

It's not to look like his grandfather, silly. It's so that when someone asks, he can point at the 'tache and go "My name is Earl Attlee."

It's a striking likeness, isn't it?

I reckon he's a Monkey Island fan.

"A dairy farmer would be impressed by the number of times that this Government have announced that Crossrail was to go ahead."

"How appropriate. You fight like a cow."
