The police officer heading the inquiry into child sex abuse in Jersey is considering legal action over an email from the island's children's minister that criticises his investigation.

Deputy police chief Lenny Harper said the email, sent by health and social services minister Ben Shenton to Cabinet colleagues, is “childish and bizarre” and “unhelpful to the victims”.

The email contains a personal attack on Mr Harper, where he is referred to as “Lenny Henry”, and mocks the investigation, questioning whether the remains found so far are animal or human bones. [AOL]
Policeman investigating child death in remote island community meets increasingly sinister hostility and contempt from island authorities. Previous experience suggests this could all end badly for Mr Harper.

Smokers in Minnesota are dodging the new smoking ban by exploiting a loophole that exempts theatrical performances. Bar patrons have been puffing away in costume or making conversation, classed as “extended improv”. Productions include “The Tobacco Monologues” and “Before the Ban”, for which performers are “required to dress as they did before the ban”, which started on 1 October.
