A Boy Named Kazoo
Jun. 11th, 2004 04:12 pmA friend of mine is a primary school teacher. As part of a fund-raising effort for her school, she got a few of us together to perform as a kazoo chorus for her school. As a result, I have now received an item of fan mail from a seven-year-old boy.
I reproduce this important and interesting document below, as I intend it to serve as a template for any fan mail I may send in the future.
1 Whether this is kindly meant or just blatant crawling, can anyone really be “a great kazoo player”?
2 I'd like to point out that we actually finished playing at half past nine. We didn’t hit 9.30 and suddenly say, "And here are some songs we've written..."
3 Among the popular favourites we rendered in four-part kazoo harmony, such as the BeeGees’ “Tragedy”, my friend had also arranged the hymn “When A Knight Won His Spurs”, which these kids sing regularly at their school. At no time did I play on an actual knight on his spurs, although I concede that might have been worth watching.

I am writing to tell you how impressed I am. I liked the way you played.
In the Kazoo Orchestra it was a pleasure to hear a great kazoo player.1 It was great to hear you till half past nine.2 It was great.
My favourite bit of it was the bit when you played on a knight on his spurs.3 It was great. All of the great songs you did were excellent.
