Didn’t realise it was the Budget today. As I wandered across College Green, surrounded by cameras and reporters (including a crane, which seemed a little unnecessary—I hope Sky News are going to use it for an impressive crash zoom: “The basic rate of income tax will fall from 22p to…” [ZOOM, SHOCK CHORD] “… 20p!”), I saw a lone protestor sat chatting to a policeman. Propped up against the low wall next to him was a toilet seat bearing the slogan, “SAVE OUR TOILETS”. The media can’t all have turned out for this, I thought. And I was right.
