Found money

A friend of mine took me to dinner last week. She was feeling flush because that day she had spring cleaned and discovered lying around the house—in the shape of a few notes but mostly loose change—just over £75. She and her husband aren’t slovenly, but clearly they don’t have as much time to tidy up as they thought.

I don't think foreign money counts, though.

It probably does if it's 75 pounds' worth.

Which a couple of hundred $US now pretty much amounts to.

I tend not to change it back as I go over there every year. But I had forgotten I had it.

I knew where it had come from - I used to be a club treasurer and was supposed to pay it into the bank, but at the time assumed it lost and made it up myself. So it was all mine when I found the envelope three years later!

I did once find £50 sitting in a book on the shelf. I had put it there to save for bills and forgotten about it. It doesn't beat the guy I worked for though. He seriously had £980 in change in a bowl in his kitchen. I cried!

It's a trifling sum, but only yesterday I cashed in a bag of loose change to the tune of £34. We bought a bottle of gin, a rolling pin, a packet of lard and a bottle of wine. We had a great time.
