I’ve lived in London a long time; long enough that I’m aware I scarcely even register loud impacts in the street. But I like to think that if a mortar exploded 100 yards away, I’d still be able to allow myself a small flinch. Iraqi PM Nouri al-Maliki, on the other hand, has clearly become acclimatised to a very different urban environment. The second camera angle shows that, while the UN Sec-Gen ducks, wide-eyed, in understandable terror, al-Maliki barely blinks. He may as well wearily hold up a small sign saying, “Welcome to my fucking world”.

Wow, he really doesn't move at all.

Rather makes you want to run up and give him a hug.

No you don't. He's a nasty little backstabbing shit. Al-Maliki, I mean.

Oh, is he? I haven't really been following events for a while, so I'm a bit out of the loop.

Al-Maliki is hanging onto power by a fingernail, threatening to double-cross his Sadrist support in the cabinet and manufacture scandals so as to jail them while he tries to keep together a coalition.

But none of it is working for him. I'll bet good money he'll be in exile in London before the year is out.
