For years we have known that the deputy speaker of the Commons, Sir Michael Lord, was due at some point to be ennobled. There has been much cheerful speculation about what he would be called when that happened, with the hope that he would be allowed to retain his surname and be known in the House as “the noble Lord, Lord Lord”, or possibly, at least in Hansard, “the noble Lord3”.

Well, the day has finally arrived, and so far we have not been told anything different about the soon-to-be-noble Lord’s moniker. I’ll be stunned if that really is what he ends up being called, but I know the whole House will be disappointed if it isn’t.

EDIT:Lord Framlingham”?! A nation boos.
