Wandering along Worthing seafront, I can’t help overhearing this exchange from a couple as they overtake me, hand in hand.
“Don’t lie to me,” she says.
“I swear,” he replies. “I swear on my son’s life, I never touch that shit. I’ve nicked bikes, I’ve nicked cars, I’ve nicked coppers’ cars, but I’ve never touched drugs.”
She squeezes his hand as they walk on.
