Lord Greaves asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will refrain from using the word "stakeholder" in all official Government reports and other publications for which they are responsible.

Lord Bassam of Brighton: "Stakeholder" is a commonly used word with an established meaning, both within Government and in the private sector. The wording of government reports and publications is a matter for the relevant department.

They should have just said: "No."

Greaves can be a bugger to transcribe, but after asking this question he'll always have a special place in my heart. It's a pointless, quixotic enterprise he apppears to have embarked on, though, and for his sake I hope he doesn't pursue it too far. Anyone who's ever looked into the cold, dead eyes of anyone able to speak the bloodless argot of "delivering outcomes to clients" without flinching knows there's not a fridge in hell's chance of explaining to them what's wrong. What I still can't work out is whether this stale, fetid jargon instils, or is merely a symptom of, their weird disconnect from the world around them. Still, so long as their fit for purpose best practice ring fences their customers, who am I to deliver a negative outcome?
